VOLUNTEERS - WE NEED YOU!!!

COACHES | REFEREES (ADULT AND YOUTH) | BOARD MEMBERS

AYSO is a completely volunteer-driven program. We're always in need of any assistance that you can provide whether that is coaching a team, referring a game, or helping out with the fields just to name a few things. In order to ensure the safety of all players, each volunteer must be registered and trained for their appropriate job(s) through AYSO.

To Register as Volunteer:

Choose the option to sign-up as a volunteer on the website when registering your child(ren). You may select from a number of duties such as coach, referee, or board member. During registration of volunteers, the system will conduct a background check which must be agreed to. After you're finished, you're officially registered as a volunteer and can begin to look at training. Volunteers must register each season.

Training:

AYSO provides job specific training to all of it's volunteers to ensure you're fully prepared to take on whatever task you signed up for. Even if you've never played soccer before, don't know the rules, or unsure of what you'll be doing, we'll ensure you're covered for Day 1. Training is conducted through a combination of online and in-class training sessions depending on what level of training you require.

All volunteers must visit www.aysou.org to take our Safe Haven and CDC Concussion Awareness training sessions. These are completely online training sessions and must be completed by anyone volunteering with our players. From there, specific training sessions are offered online or in-class for coaching, refereeing, or management training. 6U and 8U coach training can be completed 100% online; while most other training sessions require some in-class portion. Watch our website and emails for our area in-class training events each fall and spring.

You must have completed the AYSO specific training for your job prior to taking the field with any players.

Once trained, you are set. You are not required to take additional training each session with the exception of coach or referee updates required to ensure the latest rules and regulations are communicated to all volunteers.

Coaches:

A coach or assistant coach runs a specific team within divisions 6U thru 15U. Each coach and/or assistant are trained for their division they will be coaching in. As a coach, you hold and conduct practices with your team and manage your team at their games (if applicable). Loyalsock AYSO provides you with all equipment you need for practices and games including balls, cones and other drill equipment, goal gloves, etc. Team sizes vary based on division.

Referees:

At each level game from 8U and above, a certified referee is required to enforce the Rules of the Game. Referees ensure players get required playing time and enforce game rules. To referee a game, you must be a trained and certified referee. Loyalsock AYSO will provide you with training, referee uniform, and referee equipment required for games. A Loyalsock referee is required for each home game.

If interested in becoming a referee, please reach out. We are always short on referees. Loyalsock referees can ref games as their schedule provides. WE DO NOT REQUIRE YOU TO REF A GAME EACH WEEK!!

Coaches - Taking the ref course is a great way to great an in-depth understanding of all of the rules of the game, and ensures you always have a ref in pocket if we get in a pinch.

KIDS - This is a great option for older kids to stay involved in the game! Youth referees can ref from ages 12 on up in select divisions. This is also a great way to earn community service hours if your school program offers them.
